Opportunity For Artist Studio Space In Allentown on Hamilton

We had a great turnout for our previous Chen Arts meeting in October. One of the meeting items was a discussion around potential artist studio space in Allentown. Here is some more information from one of the meeting attendees if you are looking for space:

As I said at your meeting, I'm looking to rent some space in 808 Hamilton and I want to incorporate some Artist space in the project.  Spaces will approx $250 per month and I am working with someone to put a recording studio (maybe video also) on site.  This would all be on the 3rd flr while the Club/Bar would be on the 2nd flr.  The Bar would be able to serve the entire building allowing your opening to have full bar status.  I will show some 2nd run/independent movies, as well as other specialty events.  I envision an mini Banana Factory, kind of like a Bougament Mill.  If anyone has questions or interest feel free to give me a call at 415-756-4882. Thanks for your time! -Thomas

If you are interested in supporting the arts in Allentown, or increasing your presence as an artist through studio space, please get in touch with Thomas at the number provided above.

Art Mart Closing Soiree TONIGHT!

It's been a great second year for Art Mart. Diane Teti did a great job managing and promoting the shop and many area artists sold fine art and other creations. Join the artists TONIGHT starting at 5 p.m. at the store at Holiday Inn at 9th and Hamilton in downtown Allentown.

Here are the details from Diane:

This Thursday (1/6/11) starting at 5 pm, we will be offering 25% off everything in the store. We will also be serving complimentary beer and wine and munchies. If beer and wine are not your thing, Made in Brazil has 1/2 price drinks in the bar between 6-8 pm Even if you've been in the store, come join us as we have gotten a larger selection of some really nice things since opening. I encourage you to make this a friends and family event - enjoy free wine and beer and mingle with the local artists that made the Art Mart possible. Happy New Year!!

Opportunity for Artists

This information was sent courtesy Joe Skrapits:

I wanted to let you know the next Party on the Deck is on Thursday, Oct. 7 from 5- 8 p.m. It again will be held at the Parking Deck behind the Farr lot on Linden St.

At the last event we had 3 artists who were selling jewelry, art, etc. This is something the committee would like to see expanded for this event.

Would you be able to help us get artists (of any type)?

It is free to exhibit/sell, but if a table is needed it will be $25.

They will need to set up by 4 o’clock the day of the event.

Let me know what other questions you may have.

Thanks,

Leslie L. Suhr

Ro Geseck Paints Civil War Mural

Fellow Chenster and Baum School of Art instructor Ro Geseck has completed a 30ft. mural at The Lehigh Valley Heritage Museum, 4th and Walnut in Allentown, as part of their upcoming Major Civil War Exhibition. Ro says that she was thrilled to be able to paint Grant's horse! Ro has completed several murals in Allentown. This past summer she completed a mural with the kids at Central Elementary. You may have seen her work at Phoebe Floral on Hamilton, or in the kid's bathrooms at the Allentown Art Museum, or the former Federal Grill, just to name a few. Oh, and there's that sports mural on Union Blvd.

The opening of the Civil War Exhibit is this Saturday Sept. 26th, and the show runs through July. There will be re-enactments, artifacts, free soda, and much more. Here's a link for details: http://www.lchs.museum/CivilWarAD.pdf

Annie Giancarlo at PA Renewable Energy Fest

Fellow Chenster Annie Giancarlo will be showing her clothing designs made from recycled materials this weekend at the PA Renewable Energy Festival, Fri., Sat. & Sun. - Sept. 18, 19, 20 at the Kempton Community Center, Kempton, PA . Here's a link for details. http://www.paenergyfest.com/

Annie is not only a talented visual artist, but she is also a clothing designer, costume designer, furniture designer, master gardener, master chef, and is currently working on a degree in Kitchen and Bath Design. Annie has designed and created several of the shirts that I wear on stage when I perform with The Villas. She ingeniously pieces together vintage fabric from the 1960's to create colorful and one of a kind psychedelic shirts. Congrats to Annie, sounds like a great event. Hope you can attend!
