Opportunity For Artist Studio Space In Allentown on Hamilton

We had a great turnout for our previous Chen Arts meeting in October. One of the meeting items was a discussion around potential artist studio space in Allentown. Here is some more information from one of the meeting attendees if you are looking for space: 

As I said at your meeting, I'm looking to rent some space in 808 Hamilton and I want to incorporate some Artist space in the project.  Spaces will approx $250 per month and I am working with someone to put a recording studio (maybe video also) on site.  This would all be on the 3rd flr while the Club/Bar would be on the 2nd flr.  The Bar would be able to serve the entire building allowing your opening to have full bar status.  I will show some 2nd run/independent movies, as well as other specialty events.  I envision an mini Banana Factory, kind of like a Bougament Mill.  If anyone has questions or interest feel free to give me a call at 415-756-4882. Art Unveiling Oct. 24 at "New Museum"

Stop by Gregory Coates' New Museum window at 813 W. Hamilton Street on Saturday to see the work of Cheryl Agulnick Hochberg and offer your support!

Here is her bio:

Cheryl Agulnick Hochberg is a Kutztown-based artist who has shown often in this region as well as nationally. In this area, her paintings have recently been seen at eDavid Gallery in Bethlehem, at the Siegel Gallery at Lehigh University, and in the Chen Arts Momentum show. In addition to her paintings, she makes 3-dimensional works with a collaborator, Andrew Brehm, and also makes found object constructions. These three dimensional works will be shown in Greg Coates' New Museum. Cheryl teaches at Kutztown University, and is head of the Studio Art department there.

Gregory Coates‘s career in painting and sculpture dates back to the late 1980s. Over the years his works has included large and small –scale> sculpture, paintings, assemblages, and installations. For the most part the artist has chosen to construct his work from a variety of found objects and materials.

Note: The New Museum is located at 813 W. Hamilton, across from Brew Works.

Event Kicks Off Friday, Sept. 11

This project is a result of artists and business operators working together in community partnership.

Artists and downtown business owners/managers came together to utilize vacant storefront properties for a positive purpose. This symbiotic relationship beautifies the downtown, provides exposure for talented artists and draws attention to the valuable commercial properties along the city’s main corridor.

The goal of the project is to gain attention for local artists and secure tenants for the spacious shop windows and storefronts along Hamilton Street.

Special thanks to Cathy Minnich, GM of Holiday Inn, and the owners of Holiday Inn Allentown, 813 Hamilton and 809 Hamilton for their support of the Arts in Allentown.

Hamilton For Rent - The Second Leg

A new art display will be installed in downtown Allentown starting Tuesday.

Hamilton For Rent - The Second Leg is the latest installment of artwork gracing the vacant windows of buildings around 9th and Hamilton. The show is playfully called "The Second Leg" because it will coincide with the Univest Grand Prix, an international cycling time trial which takes place Friday, Sept. 11 from 11 am to 2 pm.

Starting Tuesday at 4 pm artists will be installing their work at several windows around 9th and Hamilton. Yodi has graciously worked to secure the locations where work will be displayed.

Cyclists from around the world will be competing on a course that passes through downtown. Thousands of visitors as well as international media are expected to attend the event, generating a large audience for the local artists who plan to show off their pieces.

Please come out to watch the exciting event and to support our local artists.

Opening Friday:

Hamilton For Rent utilizes vacant storefronts in the 900 blk. of Hamilton Street. Artists will be setting up their windows from 3-5 p.m. Friday, June 5. Please come by to meet the artists, watch the work in progress, and take in this new vision for downtown Allentown.

Show runs indefinitely. Other downtown storefronts will be utilized as they become available.

Thank you to Christine for introducing this idea to Allentown. It is modeled after a similar event taking place in south Philly. Also, thanks to Yodi for coordinating this plan, and thanks to realtor Ron Coleman who represents the buildings used in the first phase.
