Chen Arts is happy to announce its next show

Saturday, August 7th through Friday, August 20th, 2010.  
Opening Night Reception will be Saturday, August 7th at 7 pm,  at the Antonio Salemme Foundation, 542 Hamilton St., suite 203, Allentown, PA.
Entry Requirements:
Submissions should not be larger than 24” x 30” framed. There is room for small sculptures or 3-dimensional works able to stand on a 12” x 12” pedestal.
Send 3 photos (file size no larger than 2MB) to eakafkalas@gmail.com. If you do not have email, please mail the photos to E.A. Kafkalas, 112 S Madison Street, Allentown, PA 18102.
The entry fee is $10. Please make checks payable to Heather Haas. Mail payments to: 1014 Chew Street, Allentown, PA 18102  (or alternatively submit payments to Heather in person at the June 26th Chen Arts meeting.)
Deadline for submissions and payment is June 30th.
Depending on the number of submissions, we may only have room for one of your submissions. Paperwork is attached, and should be completed and submitted on the day you drop artwork off.
Volunteer Requirements:
In addition to the fee, all artists entering are required to volunteer for one (or more) of the following committees:
  • Receiving Artwork
  • Hanging
  • Opening Night Reception
  • Manning the Gallery

Allentown Freak Out opens Friday, features Chen Artist display


A first-ever “fringe” festival featuring avant-garde arts and entertainment comes to Allentown June 18 & 19 and all events are offered for FREE!

Allentown Freak Out
kicks off Friday, June 18 at the PPL Plaza Green Space at 9th and Hamilton Streets and continues Saturday, June 19 throughout the downtown from 9th to 5th streets. The event features nine live bands, fire performers and sideshow/burlesque acts, live theatre and comedy improv, art exhibits a film screening and fun for all!

Friday’s events include: Music by live DJ Unit 13, drum circle (open to public participation – bring a lawn chair!) at 8:30 p.m. at a fire performance by Red Hot Bananas at 9 p.m. featuring poi, staff, fans and hoop. After party to be held in Silk Lounge at BrewWorks at 10 p.m.

Saturday’s events include:
PPL Plaza Green: Noon to 11 pm - home to live bands: The Subtle Experience, Voodoo Automaton, Pleasant Corners, Eww Ya Boo and The Big Dirty. Happy Hooper Lehigh Valley hosts her Hoop Village all day. Tina Spinz and Red Hot Bananas perform with fire after dark.

Art-N-Soul Studios: 1 to 8 pm - The Great White Caps play surf punk music in the back lot. View an exhibit by all the artists to ever exhibit at Art-N-Soul's PushArt Gallery and watch a live graffiti mural in progress.

Allentown Arts Park: 1 to 5 pm - Allentown Chen Arts Group displays 13 cubes designed by 13 individual artists. Allentown Public Theatre performs family-friendly, interactive play El Coqui at 3 p.m. Bring the kids and get involved!

Allentown Brew Works: 7 to 10 pm - Come early to Silk Lounge to see Rock 'N Roll Circus, a 1968 BBC Production featuring live bands like the Stones and The Who, rocking out with a live audience under the big top. Film is followed by a live show by the Associated Mess comedy improv troupe. ABW is offering a Freak Out kamikaze cosmo for $5. Also enjoy tasty pub fare and microbrews.

House of Chen: Arrive at 8 pm for an evening of Free American Music, featuring Bob Lewis, The Locksmiths and Tavern Tan. See beautiful ladies (Bella Deluxe and The Darwin Sisters) perform sideshow and burlesque routines between the bands! House of Chen will feature a punch and a special kamikaze Freak Out shot at the bar.

Salemme Foundation: See a live performance of Edgar Allan Poe's The Telltale Heart by Allentown Public Theatre. This show will tickle your dark side.

Who May Enter
Professional and amateur artists are invited to exhibit their original works and someone must accompany the display. No commercial galleries or representatives.

Jury of Awards
Over $2,500 in prizes and honorable mentions will be awarded in the above five categories.
Entry Fees and Dates
$45 per 25 foot space until June 11, 2010--$50 per space June 12-19, 2010
Two or more exhibitors may share one space, however the entry fee must be paid by each exhibiting artist.
Refunds will be given if the show is canceled.
Sales
Exhibitors are permitted to sell their works. No commission will be charged. All artists must register when placing their work in the park.
Display Screens
A limited number of “wire mesh” on wooden frame display screens are available on a first-reserved basis for a rental fee of $6 each. The screens are on two hinged panels, each 52”x 63”.
Publicity
Regional coverage to promote a quality art show and coverage on the exhibition day. A program listing exhibitors will be distributed on the day of the show.
